On April 11, the MT Al Jassasiya carrying nearly 70,000 tons of LNG from Ras Laffan port (Qatar) docked at PV GAS Vung Tau port, starting to transfer fuel for electricity production during the peak dry season.
This is the second LNG train brought to Vietnam by Vietnam Gas Corporation (PV GAS) and the first time LNG is officially used to serve electricity production. Nearly 70,000 tons of LNG will be supplied by PV GAS to Phu My 3 Thermal Power Plant under Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) during April and May this year. PV GAS, a unit with nearly 95.76% of shares owned by Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (Petrovietnam), is the unit assigned by the Party and State to lead Vietnam's gas industry, within the framework of implementation. competitive energy market according to Decision No. 2233/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister issued December 28, 2020. Up to now, PV GAS is the first and only enterprise qualified to import and export LNG; At the same time, it owns a complete LNG Terminal system in Vietnam that has been in operation since July 2023.
Similar to the first LNG shipment on the Maran Gas Achilles ship in July 2023, PV GAS paid special attention to receiving the second LNG shipment that just arrived at Thi Vai port today, coordinating forces from many units. and authorities. The entire process of picking up the ship from buoy 0 until the ship arrives at the port is carried out absolutely safely, according to regulations, and on time. This smooth and standard coordination once again demonstrated the management role and capacity of PV GAS. It is expected that the Al Jassasiya ship will anchor and load cargo in the next 36 hours before leaving PV GAS Vung Tau port.
With the support of Petrovietnam, Ministries, Departments and the Government, in the coming time, PV GAS will actively develop and work with competent authorities to review and remove policy bottlenecks related to the mechanism. and infrastructure in deploying LNG products in Vietnam. Focusing on implementing the construction of central LNG warehouse infrastructure (LNG Hub) to optimize the country's resources; Develop mechanisms to encourage and promote infrastructure investment, along with specific regulations on price parity transfer mechanisms, volume offtake, and principles on fees, contributing to building a business market. LNG is transparent, fair and sustainable.
Recently, on March 29, 2024, PV GAS signed a contract to sell LNG to EVN to supplement gas sources for electricity production in 2024. The amount of LNG will be supplied to Phu My 3 Thermal Power Plant during the period. April-May 2024 period, adding about 500 million kWh to the power system. Previously, on March 15, PV GAS officially provided LNG for industrial production with the first LNG tanker trucks in Vietnam, serving the needs of customers in Thuan Dao industrial park, Long An.
